A recommendation for your orchid: Don't water the orchid too much, only a thimble each two days or three days- and use orchidfertilizer each 3 months. I think that would help- I've got orchids which live 3 years now.

sadly I need to obtain a new orchid because lo and behold, mine is dead! But I will use your tips and hopefully this time I will be successful in keeping it alive. I bought bamboo for my apartment because its almost impossible to kill...i think my roommate and I will manage alright. we dont have very green thumbs!
bamboo is a very good choice- do you bought the bigger one for the garden or the little one for vases? Bamboo has a special type of prettiness- and you're right it's almost impossible to kill bamboo. For bamboo I've got a tip, too. Some gardeners are saying that water is enough-
if you are using water only, put some copper cent in the water- or if you use the tip with potting soil

smaller ones that are meant for a pot. i live in chicago so there really isn't any space to put a garden. I do like it very much which is surprising because it's just a green stick and I usually like color in my plants. it should be fun though. Plus your orchids are obviously better cared for than mine are. I kill them within a year typically.
